The process flow of medals generally includes the following steps:
1、 Design phase
Requirement communication: Fully communicate with customers or clients to understand the purpose, theme, style preferences, budget, and other requirements of the medal. Determine whether the medal is used to recognize individual achievements, commemorate major events, or as a symbol of honor for a specific organization.
Creative conception: Based on the communication results, the designer begins to carry out creative conception. Consider the shape, size, pattern, color, and other elements of the medal, and design it in conjunction with the theme. You can draw sketches by hand or use design software for preliminary design.
Solution determination: After designing multiple solutions, discuss and provide feedback to the client, make modifications and improvements based on their feedback, and ultimately determine the best solution.
2、 Mold making stage
Creating a 3D model: Convert the determined design scheme into a 3D digital model, which can be created using professional 3D modeling software. Ensure that the details of the model are accurate and meet the design requirements.
Mold making: Based on the 3D model, use high-precision mold making equipment to make molds. Mold materials are usually metals such as steel or copper, which have good hardness and durability. The mold making process requires precise processing and debugging to ensure the accuracy and quality of the mold.
3、 Casting stage
Preparation materials: According to the material requirements of the medal, prepare corresponding metal materials such as copper, zinc alloy, aluminum alloy, etc. Ensure that the purity and quality of the materials meet the standards.
Casting: Inject melted metal material into the mold, wait for it to cool and solidify, and then take out the preliminary formed medal blank. The casting process requires controlling parameters such as temperature, pressure, and time to ensure the quality and accuracy of the medal.
4、 Processing stage
Deburring: Deburring the medal blank to remove excess parts and uneven edges generated during the casting process. Tools such as sandpaper and file can be used for manual processing, or mechanical deburring equipment can be used.
Polishing: Polish the medal to make its surface smooth and even. Different thicknesses of sandpaper can be used for gradual polishing, from coarse sandpaper to fine sandpaper, until the desired smoothness is achieved.
Polishing: Polish the polished medal to increase its glossiness. Mechanical polishing can be performed using a polishing machine and polishing agent, as well as manual polishing.
5、 Surface treatment stage
Electroplating: According to the design requirements, the medal is electroplated. You can choose different electroplating methods such as gold plating, silver plating, and copper plating to increase the beauty and durability of the medal. The electroplating process requires strict control of parameters such as the composition, temperature, and time of the electroplating solution.
Baking paint: If necessary, the medal can be treated with baking paint. Choose the appropriate paint color, spray the paint evenly on the surface of the medal, and then dry it. Baking paint can make the color of medals more vibrant and long-lasting.
Enamel: For some high-end medals, enamel technology can be used for surface treatment. Fill the patterned part of the medal with enamel glaze, and then perform high-temperature firing to firmly bond the enamel glaze with the metal. Enamel craftsmanship can create medals with bright colors and delicate textures.
6、 Assembly stage
Accessory installation: Install corresponding accessories such as ribbons, pins, hanging rings, etc. according to the design of the medal. Ensure compatibility
